HOTEL REVIEWS - JOCK SAFARI LODGE KRUGER NATIONAL PARK SOUTH AFRICAN SAFARI LODGES

Jock Safari Lodge is a luxury 5-star camp in a prime Big 5 area in the Kruger National Park, with access from Malelane. Set at the meeting of two rivers, the luxury lodge has stunning views. Game drives are in open Land Rovers with professional game rangers. Also on offer are walking safaris, birding safaris and guided historical tours. Jock Safari Lodge bases its theme on Sir Percy Fitzpatrick's animal classic Jock Of The Bushveld, the true story of a Staffordshire Bull Terrier, whose courage and loyalty to his pioneer owner is the stuff of legend. There are 12 elegant, air-conditioned suites, each with a private “Sala” (outdoor lounge) and plunge pool on the terrace. Outdoor showers have river views and the Big 5 – lion, leopard, elephant, rhino and buffalo - may even be spotted from the comfort of your room. Suites have king-size beds, a small lounge and twin-basin bathroom. The Pilgrim’s Rest Spa, named after the historical mining town featured in Jock of the Bushveld, includes a hydrotherapy bath, steam room and sauna. Wedding packages, including his and hers massages, are offered.

We stayed at "Little Jock" a 3-roomed lodge a little way from the main lodge. It was an ideal honeymoon spot and we virtually had the place to ourselves! The room was luxurious with an enormous bath as well as indoor and outdoor showers. We saw rhino regularly from the balcony. The food was exquisite and the service excellent. It was clean and well kept with attention to detail. We went to the main lodge on a couple of occasions and it seemed just as nice but on a bigger scale. The game drives were excellent and we saw the big 5 several times over as well as giraffe, zebra and hyena. Our ranger, Manzi was excellent and we felt very safe with her!
