This place is lovely if you want privacy and peace and quiet. The hotel itself has only about 10 rooms, so you'll definitely get away from all the noise of a city. It feels almost like you have the place to yourself.

There is some snorkeling off the beach right in front of the hotel, but no reefs. To find reefs it is an hour+ boat ride away, and VERY expensive...$400 and upwards I believe per boat due to high fuel prices.

The chalets are fantastic with huge bath. We stayed in a beach chalet which is just steps from the beach (although none of the chalets are more than a minute's walk). Huge bed with elegant mosquito netting, private covered deck and awesome comfortable lounge chairs, large bathroom with huge tub and enclosed toilet, and private outside shower which is great after swimming or just to cool off.

The tap water has a strong sulfurish (rotten egg) smell, which can put some people off, but it doesn't take away from the overall appeal of the place, and bottled water is provided free of charge for drinking. And if you want to take a bath, simply put some of the bath salts (provided) in and it is barely noticeable.

I think if you are expecting 5-star service you will be disappointed. The service isn't bad...everyone is very nice and helpful, but I think the laid back atmosphere of the place is somewhat reflected in the quality and quantity of service provided. Don't get me wrong, it's a great place and we had a great time...however, there are some things that could be improved.

As for the food, a pretty good selection of food with two choices for dinner each night. As a vegetarian, they still catered to me pretty well (remember you'll have to ask and sometimes remind them). I think I'd have to give the food about a 4 out of 5 stars. They have a wide selection of drinks too with very reasonable prices and the bar is quite cozy and bartenders great.

Unique Qualities: Important to note...the place is run by a generator and the electricity goes off morning/mid-day and in the night. If you get bored easily, make sure you bring something to keep you entertained, especially if the weather is bad and you don't want to be outside.

Overall, Dugong is a great place to visit. Relaxing, comfortable, and beautiful. Don't forget your mosquito repellant though---it is a MUST!
