HOTELS REVIEW-ULUSABA-SAFARI LODGE

The lodge, in Sabi Sands Game Reserve on the border of Kruger National Park, is owned by Sir Richard Branson. The rooms are built like tree houses, allowing for a view of animals drinking at the water hole. Rooms are divided into names, three Safari rooms, three Elephant rooms and four River rooms. A maximum of 20 guests can stay at the lodge at ay one time. All rooms have en-suite bathrooms and air-conditioning and fans. Activities include two game-drives per day to see the Big Five (lion, leopard, elephant, buffalo and rhino) and a walking safari, lead by field guide and tracker. The lodge has a fully equipped gymnasium, spa, tennis courts and star-gazing observatory. Children are not accommodated for at Safari Lodge, only Rock Lodge.

Rock Lodge has two suites called Makwela Suites and four suites called Rock Cliff Rooms, and one split-level Master Suite. The Rock Suite has two bedrooms each with en suite. All rooms and suites have air-conditioning and fans, as well as tea- and coffee-making facilities, and mini bar. Activities include two game-drives per day to see the Big Five (lion, leopard, elephant, buffalo and rhino). Each game-drive is lead by a professional field guide and tracker. There is also a daily walking safari with a guide and tracker. There is a fully equipped gym, outdoor pool and sundeck at each lodge. Other facilities include a Spa, tennis courts, children’s entertainment, babysitting facilities and a star-gazing observatory. Children of all ages are allowed, except on Safari walks.

The four-star graded tented camp consists of eight luxury canvas en-suite tents set on stilts in trees, above a seasonal river, all linked by wooden walkways. There is a dining room, bar, and campfire area for entertainment. This is a traditional styled camp aimed at offering a great wildlife experience coupled with the opportunity to view the ‘Big Five’ (lion, leopard, elephant, buffalo and rhino) without compromising comfort. HOTELS REVIEW-GWALAGWALA TENTED CAMP

This tented camp, only 30 minutes drive from Kruger National Park, is in the Limpopo Province Lowveld, outside Timbavati Game Reserve. The accommodation consists of six luxury safari tents on raised wooden platforms, each with an en-suite bathroom supplied with hot water, and electricity. There is a swimming pool in the camp. Also included with the accommodation is a bar, breakfast and reading area. The camp is not fenced so animals will wander in at times. A small shop provides essentials. Activities consist of early morning guided walking and game-drives in an open Land Rover. You can see the ‘Big Five’ (lion, leopard, elephant, buffalo and rhino) here. This is the largest private four-star game lodge in the Greater Kruger National Park region, situated within the Kapama Game Reserve. Accommodation consists of 42 bedrooms with en-suite bathrooms and views of the reserve. There is a pool, curio shop and boma within for entertainment. The lodge offers buffet meals. This lodge is 42km from Paul Kruger Gate of Kruger National Park. There are lodges and luxury cottages, either by the river, in the woodland or alongside the golf course. Each lodge room or luxury cottage contains an open-plan living and dining area with a fully fitted kitchen and en-suite bathrooms. The lodge has three swimming pools, a nine-hole golf course designed by Gary Player, tennis courts, jogging trails, nature trails and a playground and trampoline for the kids. This superb lodge is in the Singita Game Reserve, an exclusive concession within South Africa’s Kruger National Park. Architects were inspired by the idea of an eagle’s nest on high – so guests stay in their own personal glass-walled eyrie on a cliff top. The 15 lofty and luxurious air-conditioned suites all have game-viewing balconies overlooking the bush and the Nwanetsi River. Each has ensuite bath and shower, as well as outdoor showers for thrills au naturelle. Facilities include a cliff-side swimming pool, art gallery, wine boutique, business centre, internet, room service, fitness centre, spa and laundry services. The lodge has handicapped facilities. Activities include game drives and guided bush walks to see birds and animals including the Big Five (lion, leopard, elephant, buffalo and rhino). The lodge is in Hoedspruit, Limpopo, with Kruger National Park to the east and the Drakensburg Mountains in the west. Each camp has a pool, dining area and the entertainment area/conference area is close to all camps. The four camps are within easy access of each other. Activities include game-drives, which take place twice daily, stargazing, and various team-building exercises. Children’s activities can be organised, including a Mini Rangers course, during which children will learn about bush plants, tracking and bush-survival skills.
