Selinda Camp Hotel Reviews Botswana Safari Holiday Tour Accommodation Plunge Pool Wildlife Birdwatching Day/Night Game drives Walks Wild dog Zebra

SAFARI REVIEW - SELINDA CAMP LINYANTI OKAVANGO DELTA BOSTWANA
Selinda Camp is situated in the Selinda Reserve of Botswana, overlooking the waterway which links the Okavango Delta with the game-rich floodplains of the Linyanti Swamps. The camp has 7 meru-style tents under thatch with en-suite facilities and veranda with views of the spillway and floodplains. The main area has thatched dining, lounge and bar facilities and a plunge pool. Activities include bird watching, day/night game drives in safari vehicles and short guided walks. The Selinda Walking Trail, a superb 2 day walk between Tswene and Mokoba Trails Camps in the Linyanti Concession, is a great addition to a stay at this camp. Children over the age of 12 years are welcome. What did you think?

Selinda Camp: "Outstanding!"
Our stay at Selinda was our first game lodge experience. Following a three night stay at Selinda we stayed at Little Kwara so those camps are my reference points... We arrived in late May 2007. Selinda was completely renovated in early 2007. Facility, rooms, food and staff were outstanding. There were 3 honeymooning couples among the guests when we arrived. Our room had a king size bed! Also in the room were reference books for identifying birds and mammals and most important enough electricity to charge my camera batteries 24 hours a day in the room. Late May was a great time to be there, no mosquitoes or nagging flies (camp staff said that 3 weeks prior bugs were a problem - cold nights kill them off), warm days and very cool nights. Bring a knit cap and warm jacket! No rain as the rainy season had passed.
All guests commented on the unbelievable game viewing on the ride from the airstrip to the lodge... OB, our guide, found plenty of game, up close. He even spotted a python curled high up in a tree. Selinda had lots of elephants, zebra, cape buffalo that we viewed from just a few yards away. No rhinos. We saw 3 female lionesses with 7 cubs but we did not see male lions, leopard or cheetah. Those sightings would wait for other camps. if you are physically able take the walking tour. Ours was about 14 kilometers (8 miles) long and at one point we passed between bull elephants and grazing cape buffalo!
Note: if you see something you like in the small gift shop, buy it! You may not see it again and it will be cheaper than if you wait to buy at gifts shops in Maun or Gaborone.

We visited Selinda camp for two nights in April 2007, having been to Muchenje Lodge near Chobe for two nights, and Shinde Camp in the Delta for three nights. While the other two camps were both very nice as well and the game viewing excellent, Selinda camp was definitely the highlight for us.

We flew from Shinde early and arrived around 8:00 a.m., so I was a bit concerned that we would miss out on a game drive in the morning. But in the 45 minutes it took us to transfer to the camp, we had a tremendous game drive with Mots, our guide: ostrich, hippos, an eagle with a kill, zebra, wildebeest, jackals. The whole staff was out front to greet us, with welcome drinks and cold towels. They have just finished a renovation of the public areas for the camp and it is wonderful. Open seating areas with terrific views, and a cooling breeze during the day. Our tent was just stunning: hardwood floors, four poster bed with mosquito netting, a sitting area, writing desk with bottles of port and sherry, and a shaded porch looking out toward the water. The ensuite bathroom was amazing with double sinks, large luggage area, armoire, and a huge stone bathtub in the middle of the room. There was an open shower in the corner of the bathroom and separate toilet area. The meals were very good, but the real joy was the game drives. The two of us had a truck with one other gentleman; there was a group of eight people from Belgium traveling together who were in another vehicle. Our guide, Mots, worked so hard to give us fabulous sightings, including 2 lionesses with their five young cubs, who we saw three times during our short stay. The whole staff was wonderful, especially Kea, Brian and Precious, who took such good care of everyone. We were sad to have to leave, but even on the way to the airstrip, we had a chance to see the lion cubs again. We will definitely be back to Selinda again.
