Witsand Nature Reserve Hotel Reviews, Namibia Holiday Tour Accommodation Kalahari Swimming Pool Restaurant Dunes Birdlife Drives

HOTELS REVIEW – WITSAND NATURE RESERVE, KALAHARI, NAMIBIA
Few eco-destinations in the Northern Cape are as scenic as Witsand Nature Reserve and even fewer boast the luxury accommodation we offer our visitors. Witsand Nature Reserve is a scenic park, teeming with bird life, including the Namaqua sandgrouse, sociable weaver and Africa's smallest raptor - the pygmy falcon.

Only we can offer you sensual, flowing white dunes - twenty to sixty metres high - surrounded by copper-red Kalahari sand, Acacia woodland and the Langberg Mountain range. Home of the famous ‘Brulsand’ or Roaring Sands of the Kalahari. Under the right conditions, these dunes utter an eerie rumble when disturbed. Although the dune vegetation is generally-speaking sparse, it is complex and not easy to identify the different plant communities. On the plains surrounding the dunes, the vegetation is characteristically Kalahari Thornveld invaded by Karoo-type vegetation.

Chalets:
• The Four-star accredited chalets accommodate a total of 60 guests.
• Ten individual thatched-roof, 3 bed-roomed, self-catering, air-conditioned chalets.
• One of the ten chalets was designed to be wheelchair friendly.
• One of the ten chalets is used for honeymooners.
• Each chalets can sleep six people.
• Chalets superbly positioned for privacy and a real Kalahari experience.

Witsand was well worth including on the trip. Climbing up the loose sand dune was challenging but the view at the top was well worth the effort. We were first there in the morning and the sand and grasses in the early light were magical. As it had been wet a few days before, the roaring sands only managed a whimper but we got the idea. The accommodation was good although obviously meant for larger groups as it offered three bedrooms, bathroom, shower room, toilet and well equipped lounge/kitchen/dining room around a private patio area. The only disadvantage was that the bathroom facilities were not en suite. The meal that they delivered to our chalet was excellent and far more than the three of us could manage.
