The Chongwe River House is associated to the Chongwe River Camp, but is a private house bookable for up to 8 people (we were a family group of seven). It is one of the most amazing places you could stay ever.I would highlight that this is remote, a positive for me, but admittedly slightly less so for some others. They want to be seen a the real Africa and after the 30 minute plane from Lusaka to a dirt landing strip followed by the 45 minute speed boat ride you away from nearly all roads and people to one of the most beautiful locations. The house itself is an amazing open structure (yes that does mean no doors/windows) with a large terrace and private pool overlooking the Chongwe river. The house is breathtaking to look at, but does not compare to an elephant walking 20 yards from your swimming pool, or standing on your outdoor terrace less than 10 yards from your bed when you wake up in the morning as happened to our friends one morning. I am sure there are other places you can stay with similar proximity to animals at certain times, but none are likely to feel so private - just you an nature. The river also adds another dimension. Taking in the sunset in the middle of the Zambezi river is awesome. It also allows canoeing, boat based game viewing, and tiger fishing to augment excellent game drives - although the hippo charge at our canoe was a little bit hairy!
Finally I would say that the staff were amazing. Garth was one of the most knowledgeable guides and with his wife Lindsey they were amazing hosts. Clement also was excellent as the second guide.I would recommend the Chongwe house experience to anyone - but be prepared as it is an experience in every way.
