Vamizi Island Hotel Reviews, Quirimbas Pemba Mozambique Beach Accommodation Scuba Diving Deep Sea Fishing Snorkelling Africa Holiday

HOTELS REVIEW - QUIRIMBAS PEMBA MOZAMBIQUE FISHING DIVING BEACH
Vamizi Island beach resort is a luxury 5-star hideaway in the Quirimbas archipelago, near Pemba in Mozambique. Guests stay in one of 10 palm-thatched villas – set 70 metres apart to ensure privacy and set back from the beach to avoid disturbing nesting turtles. Built by local islanders, villas are decked out with Egyptian cotton sheets, Mozambican marble bathrooms and Swahili day beds on the verandas, which allow guests to enjoy a siesta and a sea view all at once. Vamizi island is thickly forested, rich in bird life and ringed by pristine coral reefs. Activities include deep-sea, fly or shore fishing, scuba diving, snorkelling, sea kayaking, guided walks, picnics, day trips to a nearby island and cruises aboard dhows. Spa treatments are offered. Families may arrange cots, high chairs and baby sitting in advance.

From the moment we set foot on the talcum white sand we knew we had discovered something special. We were greeted by a line of smiling faces, all in pristine white jackets, who had assembled on the beach to welcome us. After a quick introduction from the General Manager, Paul, we walked along the beach and were shown to our lodge where we continued to marvel at the simple yet casually sophisticated style of the resort. It is almost an insult to call it a resort as it will accomodate a maximum of 24 people and we were often the only guests on the island. Guests stay in a private lodge which provides complete privacy and direct access to the beach. They are beautifully appointed with an enormous bedroom and bathroom and an open fronted lounge/veranda.
The staff were excellent and nothing was too much trouble, what they lacked in sophistication they made up for with a smile and friendly approach. Simple yet delicious food is served in the central lodge with stunning views across the beach and out to the ocean.
This is a true 'get away from it all' holiday and if you want to just relax this is a great place to do it. For the slightly more energetic you can enjoy walks along miles of deserted beaches where you may see the tracks left by turtles who have hauled themselves up the beach to lay their eggs. A reef protects the island so the diving is excellent for both snorkle and scuba. You can enjoy a sunset sail aboard a local fishing boat or take the more sophisticated deep sea boat and try your hand at catching tuna, baracuda and king mackerel. I'm no fisherman but I caught a 50lb King Fish ! and all 6 guests enjoyed the mackerel that night.
We arrived with high expectations and left feeling privileged to have enjoyed what is a totally unspoilt and very special island. Don't tell too many people !
