Lightley's Holiday House Boats, based in Knysna on the Garden Route, are available in a range of fully equipped, four- or six-berth self-sail houseboats. You can opt for a catered or self-catered trip. Staff will show you to how to navigate your boat around Knysna Lagoon. The six-berth aluminium-hulled Aquachalets and newly-built four-berth GRP Leisure Liners have bedding, galleys (with fridges and gas stoves), ‘heads’ (shower rooms with chemical toilets) and portable barbecues. The Lightley's Holiday House Boats shore facility has ablution blocks and an indoor/outdoor conference and functions venue. With more than 20km of navigable waterways, the Knysna Lagoon has many places to drop anchor for a few hours or even for the night. Guests can moor in the overnight area at Thesen Harbour and stroll to shops, restaurants and spas. Local attractions include Featherbed Nature Reserve, Outeniqua Choo-Tjoe steam train, Monkeyland Primate Sanctuary, Birds of Eden (the Garden Route's free-flight bird sanctuary) and Knysna Elephant Park. Activities include bird-watching, hiking, fishing, golf, bicycle touring, canoeing/kayaking, horse-riding, sailing, dolphin- and whale-watching (from June to December), surfing and more.
