"Good food, Disappointing ambiance"It was with high expectations that we arrived at Roggeland after already spending over 2 weeks in South Africa's wonderful hotels and guesthouses. All the guide books give it raving reviews so how could we go wrong?!The location and buildings are indeed lovely, with a small pool to relax by. Disappointingly the host did not greet us on arrival, the person who showed us to our room was never to be seen again! We were looking forward to dinner immensely but in the end felt let down. The dining room was like something out of Fawlty Towers, outdated decor and bright lights, no ambiance at all. There were only 8 guest and instead of sitting everyone together tables were placed at far flunging corners of the room. It spoilt it for us. The food was very food as was the choice of accompanying wine, but for the price I would have rather stayed elsewhere. If you do choose to stay here, make sure you get one of the bigger rooms, ours was tiny!

"Fisrt Class Hospitality and Excellent Meals"Stayed one night at Roggeland. From the welcome ice-cold lemonade to the last goodbye, this was a wonderful and very relaxing visit. Each of the rooms appear to be different - ours was large, very comfortable and clean. The homemade soap was an added plus. The view of the mountain backdrop at sunset was memorable, as were the antics of the resident Pearl-Breasted swallows. The evening dinner was superb and one of the best I have had during almost 3 months of travel in southern Africa since 2000. Roggeland is an excellent place to stay and will compliment a days wine tasting at nearby vineyards. Would stay there again in a heartbeat!
