Metropole Hotel Reviews, Cape Town South Africa Gay Accommodation Luxury Boutique Holiday Safari Tour Swimming Pool Restaurants Nightlife

HOTELS REVIEW - METROPOLE HOTEL CAPE TOWN
The Metropole is a luxury 4-star gay hotel situated centrally in Long Street, a prime shopping area that is close to the Cape Town nightlife. The hotel has a Georgian facade and modern retro interior, with red as the dominant colour in public spaces. In the lobby is one of South Africa’s oldest working elevators, a reminder of the building’s long history. All 29 guest rooms have travertine marble bathrooms and balconies.

Metropole Hotel bills itself as a trendy boutique hotel in the center of Cape Town catering to a trendy urban mix of straights and gays and in that respect it did not disappoint. The location was ideal as it was within walking distance of all central Cape Town including the historical area, Long Street nightlife and the De Waterkant area. We prefered it to the antiseptic and touristy waterfront area. Our room was very comfortable and well appointed. There is a very trandy bar called the M Bar which takes off on weekends and can be a bit noisy... Breakfast was served in the ground floor Cafe and was very good but service was inconsistent. This was a recurring theme and highlighted in some other reviews. Housekeeping was not up to standards as many small items were routinely forgotten like not replacing wash cloths or the coffee we used each morning. Front desk staff was excellent. All in all a good, trendy, well located value which we would recommend and despite the housekeeping shortcomings stay in again.
