Holiday Inn Maputo is a luxury hotel splendidly situated right on the beach in Mozambique’s capital city. All 158 rooms have satellite TV and free internet access. Staff speak English, French, German and Portuguese, and the hotel has a business centre and travel services desk, where you can arrange flights, car hire, tours and change foreign currency. Housekeeping services include laundry, same-day dry cleaning and shoe shine. There is a beauty salon, 24-hour health and fitness centre and an outdoor swimming pool. Restaurants, bars and lounges overlook the pool and the ocean. Kids eat for free.

We drove from Inhambane to Maputo last week and hadn't anything booked for the thursday night.
We walked into the holiday inn, maputo since we'd seen it while driving by on a previous day and it looked very pleasant with its low rise building and sea front location.
They gave us a standard room for $175 (marked down from $185 they said!) which we gladly took.
The room was small and basic. There was a strong smell of must from the air conditioning but it had all the facilities including a bath (with a sliding door that opened directly beside the bed!) and a sea view (all rooms here face the sea i think).
Breakfast buffet was tasty and the staff were helpful. English is better here than most places since its an american chain. The pool is an ok size, with an infinity effect, but it borders the beach and there are many persistent beach traders vying for attention all the time while swimming. That suits me sometimes but not all the time.
Overall I was more impressed than I would expect to be from this chain, but the smell in the room lingers in my memories.
