We were booked in to a deluxe room however upon inspection it had a broken window in the bathroom and was small and very basic. We were pleased to be up graded to a suite. The picture of the deluxe room on the web site is actually a suite so it’s a little bit miss leading.

Etosha was slightly disappointing as the pan was rather grey after earlier rains rather than sparkling white. Good viewings though. Giraffe and zebra particularly memorable both for numbers and behaviour. With hindsight, personally we would have been happier to stay inside the park even if accommodation was more basic and maybe over-priced. This would have allowed sunset or night drives and evening visits to waterholes which were not available from lodges outside park. The park gates closed quite early in the evening so we had no chance of being in the park at sunset (or sunrise).

I’m afraid Kempinski Mokuti lodge cannot be recommended. Its only ‘advantage’ was being closer to the gate than some others. For a 5* establishment, the rooms were small, particularly the bathrooms, and the whole place seemed shabby and unloved. Loose door handles, broken toilet seat etc. Furniture more appropriate to an office. Shop completely empty except for one table of T-shirts. ‘Free’ internet never worked. Buffet food good but drinks four times price of anywhere else. Restaurant, pool and bar reminded me of Zambezi Sun at Livingstone, similar loud music, just not our scene. No water hole to view in evening.

As a complete contrast, Etosha Safari lodge, which was also quite large, had got right all that Mokuti had wrong. The rooms were in a single line with good views from all of them so you did not feel as if you were in a large complex. The rooms were large and light with a well equipped wet room and separate toilet. The food was good with lovely views from the dining area. Music slightly loud at dinner. Well stocked shop.
